I have chosen to design an office collection because I feel there is a lack of well-designed products in this area. in scandinavia we have several financially successful office furniture companies but the choice is still very standardized. we accept design in the home as a matter of course, but it is a commodity in short supply at the office.
I always try to reduce the expression of the products, and stick to one idea. simple is good. My source of inspiration has been the classic engineer’s office, the corner of the workshop where you sit on your metal chair.
such utility furniture is beautiful in its simplicity and I am striving for a similar clarity in my furniture. I want to peel away the aesthetic additions and create a beauty that is based on the function of the product. furniture should be honest, you should be able to see how it is constructed. I want to find my way to a new type of ’original form’. I like clear and natural lines of course I romanticise about the concept of industrialised. but ‘constructs’ can also be seen as a sour comment on much of contemporary design. There is too much routine design. I think it’s bloody great to be so analogous.’
